Top Recruit Tyreke Evans Commits to Memphis

The top high school recruit who was undecided about his college destination, Tyreke Evans, verbally committed to the University of Memphis yesterday.  Considered by many to be a top five player in the class of 2008 and considered by some to be the most talented athlete, decided on Memphis simply because they were coached by John Calipari.  Calipari, easily the best coach among Evans' other choices, led the Tigers to the National Championship and the Tiger also tied the record for the most victories in a three season span. Evans, who choose Memphis over Villanova, Texas and Connecticut, won't sign his letter of intent until Calipari signs a contract extension.  The point guard wants to guarantee that he will be coached by Calipari throughout his college basketball career, even if it lasts only one year.

I think that out of Evans' top college choices he definitely made the best decision by going with Memphis.  For a larger point guard like Evans, 6-5, 205, he fits perfectly in Memphis' dribble-drive-motion offense.  This more modern offense allows players to be more selfish with the ball and take their man off the dribble, a skill Evans excelled in during his high school career.  The three time Pennsylvania player of the year shouldn't have a difficult time fitting in with the Tigers and I see Evans dominating Conference USA within the first few games.  Evans averaged 29 PPG in his senior year and will be the perfect compliment with another future freshman, power forward five star recruit Angel Garcia.
